Rainbow are a British rock band formed in 1975 by guitarist Ritchie Blackmore after his departure from Deep Purple. The band became a major force in the development of hard rock and early heavy metal, particularly through their blend of powerful riffs, melodic structures, and fantasy-driven themes.
Featuring a rotating lineup of musicians, most notably vocalist Ronnie James Dio during their early era, Rainbow played a key role in shaping the sound of both neoclassical metal and melodic heavy metal.
