Bad Religion has released 16 studio albums since their formation in 1980 and debut "How Could Hell Be Any Worse?" (1982) released 16 studio albums. "Stranger Than Fiction" was the eighth. It came out in 1994 and was accompanied by a departure from the band's previous parent label Epitaph, founded by band guitarist Brett Gurewitz. Instead, the major Atlantic put the disc into circulation.

But the fans went along with it, the album sold over 600,000 copies and achieved gold status in the States. The three hit singles "21st Century (Digital Boy)," "Infected" and "Stranger Than Fiction" were probably partly responsible for this. Prominent guest appearances on the microphone contributed Tim Armstrong of Rancid ("Television") and Jim Lindberg of Pennywise ("Marked").

Wayne Kramer, legendary guitarist of MC5, can be heard in the song "Incomplete". For the reissue of the hit album, award-winning sound engineer Bob Ludwig remixed the original master tapes, resulting in a punchier and clearer sound.
