After an unexpectedly hard winter, Delain finally let their invigorating "April Rain" pelt down on us - atmospheric, onomatopoeic, symphonically sublime and of a fascinatingly epic harshness that inevitably draws you in with the very first sounds of the self-titled opener. Crystal-clear piano droplets develop after a few seconds into a torrent of pure energy, which unmistakably defines the direction of the new output of the ambitious Dutchmen: Ever forward; driven by their very own mixture of heavy riffing and siren-like vocals that will melt even the proudest of metallers' hearts within the blink of an elf-queen Charlotte's eye.
What once started as a pure studio project, peppered with many renowned star guests, but without the prospect of any live performances, has changed at the latest with "April Rain" to a real metal band of five different, interacting characters, who are linked by an eternal bond: To face the challenge of recording the best album according to all available forces; a - despite all competition and Dutch modesty - not exactly unsportsmanlike undertaking. Nevertheless, the songs of "April Rain" stand for themselves, especially in a time of plagiarists.
