'The Southern Harmony And Musical Companion' was the heady sound of a band hitting its stride.
Funky, artlessly loud, loose and tight in perfect proportion, with pounding beats, churchy female backing vocals and two guitars snaking around Chris' raspy howl, it recalled everything from the Exile-era Stones to Nick Drake to the Allman Brothers. More than anything, though, it sounded like The Black Crowes. It entered the US Billboard album charts at No. 1.
"The album debuted at No. 1 and sold millions of copies and was our big success in Europe. And I think for the people who like the Black Crowes, it's our best record, our classic album," says Chris Robinson.
