With 'Fireball', the legendary British hard rock band Deep Purple released its fifth studio album over 45 years ago. It was the second album in the classic MK-II line-up, consisting of singer Ian Gillan, Ritchie Blackmore on guitar, Jon Lord on Hammond organ, Roger Glover on bass and Ian Paice on drums.
After releasing their groundbreaking and style-setting album 'In Rock' a year earlier, the band further solidified their signature sound with 'Fireball', which was characterized by Gillan's vocals and Blackmore's distinctive riff-heavy guitar playing. 'Fireball' is more experimental than its predecessor, however, and is now considered one of Deep Purple's most progressive albums.
The album reached number one in the German and also the British album charts
