"This album's a musical and emotional rollercoaster, but most of our albums are," says Mike Portnoy about "Black Clouds & Silver Linings," the tenth Dream Theater album, the second album to be released on Roadrunner Records. "Black Clouds & Silver Linings" marks another milestone in Dream Theater's unprecedented musical journey, which began two and a half decades ago and has since spawned a diverse body of unique music, established progressive metal worldwide and inspired an incredibly devoted fan base. The new album - produced by the band's principal songwriters, Mike Portnoy and John Petrucci - once again offers dynamic compositions, vivid lyrical scenarios and ambitious, multi-layered compositions that have established the band as a unique creative force for years. "Black Clouds & Silver Linings" features two relatively short tracks by Dream Theater standards, "A Rite Of Passage" and "Wither," as well as four customarily lengthy pieces that once again highlight the band's penchant for extended, multifaceted epics. "A Nightmare To Remember", "The Shattered Fortress", "The Best Of Times" and the almost 20-minute long last song of the album "The Count Of Tuscany", show the complexity of the compositions and the extraordinary instrumental ability of the five-piece, which together with the crystal clear production makes them one of the best bands of their genre.
