'Stain', released in 1993, is Living Colour's third album. It is the first album featuring bassist Doug Wimbish (who had previously worked with Jeff Beck, Madonna, Mick Jagger, and others) and was produced by Ron "Bad Brains" St. Germain.
On 'Stain', Living Colour takes a harder and more aggressive approach, even incorporating thrash metal and industrial elements into the tracks. The band sounded darker and used samples for the first time. The tracks got to the point more quickly than the expansive compositions of 1990’s 'Time’s Up', yet retained their intensity.
The pessimistic tone in tracks like “Type” carries through to songs like “Go Away,” “Ignorance Is Bliss,” and “Never Satisfied,” while “Postman,” with its depiction of a deranged killer, leaves all reservations behind. The explosive “Ausländer” is one of the highlights of the album, as are the melodic rock number “Leave It Alone” and the magnificent ballad “Nothingness.”
The alternative metal band Living Colour was founded in New York in 1984. The band, which was also part of the Black Rock Coalition, went on to win several Grammy Awards.
'Stain' is Living Colour’s third album. The record, originally released on March 2, 1993, on Epic Records, was the first album featuring then-new bassist Doug Wimbish. The album reached No. 26 on the Billboard 200 charts.
