From it's very beginnings in 2002, the German progressive death metal band Obscura (named after Gorguts' inimitable 1993 full-length) has demonstrated an uncanny ability for blending different forms of technical, cerebral metal into a coherent synthesis of death, thrash and black metal merged with progressive elements.
Obscura's 2006 debut 'Retributio'n is a beastly album blending the savagery of New York death metal with the fleet-fingered fretting of forerunners Death and Gorguts.
