For almost 25 years Opeth have been an immovable force, consistently refusing all genre rules and other conventions at any time, but instead have paved their own way with their unique sound somewhere between metal and progressive. So also on the new work, for which the Swedes have chosen the title "Pale Communion".

Ever since their formation in Stockholm in 1990, the band around singer, guitarist and songwriter Mikael Åkerfeldt has been one of the most idiosyncratic combos in hard music, whose members from the Swedish death metal scene, which was in full bloom at the time, have never allowed themselves to be pigeonholed in any style or limited to just one musical genre since their first recordings.

Opeth's creative engine has always been the will to express their irrepressible love for music. And that in all conceivable ways, in which they wove the most diverse influences into their metallic trademark sound. At the latest since the release of "Still Life" in 1999 (on which they showed a spiritual as well as professional connection with prog icon Steven Wilson - a connection that is still unbroken today) Opeth played in their very own league as far as the groundbreaking crossover of metal with various styles foreign to the genre is concerned.
