Pennywise was founded in 1988 in the South Bay of Los Angeles—a neighborhood with a rich punk rock history. Through their relentless touring and their melodic, high-energy sound—which blends classic punk, surf punk, and hard-hitting hardcore—the band has built an international following. Over the years, Pennywise has cemented its place in punk history with iconic songs like “Fuck Authority,” “Alien,” and “Bro Hymn” (their timeless ode to brotherhood and friends who have passed away).
Pennywise have remained stubbornly true to the ideas and inspirations that brought them to life. On their sixth album, 'Straight Ahead', the band's stated goal was to create an album that both satisfies their longtime fans and breaks new ground, using social and political issues as inspiration. "My Own Country" explores the individual desire for autonomy, "Might Be A Dream" and "Still Can Be Great" aim to inspire courage and determination while pointing out the flaws in our culture. Straight Ahead is the result of nearly five months of continuous work and is the strongest and most diverse album to date with songs like "Alien" receiving countless radio plays in Southern California. At the same time, Pennywise played a sold out show at the Long Beach Sports Arena, an unheard of feat for a local punk band from Hermosa Beach CA.
