In 1972 ZZ Top released their second LP, an album that didn't contain many hit singles, but still paved the way for their real breakthrough album 'Tres Hombres' the following year.

Recorded at Robin Hood Studios in Tyler, Texas, and produced by Bill Ham, who had already produced the cleverly titled first album ('ZZ Top's First Album') and also turned the knobs on 'Tres Hombres', 'Rio Grande Mud' showed that ZZ Top's sound was still more or less the same, but also that they weren't afraid to change it up here and there.

The end result was a 10-track collection of songs - all co-written by Billy Gibbons, at least - that paid tribute to cars ("Chevrolet"), food ("Bar-B-Q"), alcohol ("Whiskey'n Mama") and, of course, women. The only single released from the album was called "Francine," and although it didn't make the Top 40, it climbed into the Billboard Hot 100, reaching #69.
