A-Z are an American progressive metal band formed by former Fates Warning and Warlord drummer Mark Zonder, bringing together an all-star lineup of experienced musicians from across the progressive and melodic metal scenes. Featuring vocalist Ray Alder (Fates Warning), bassist Philip Bynoe (Warlord, Steve Vai, Ring of Fire), guitarist Joop Wolters and keyboardist Vivien Lalu, A-Z combine soaring melodies, technical precision and powerful songwriting.
The band create a distinctive blend of progressive metal, melodic hard rock and classic heavy metal influences, balancing intricate musicianship with accessible hooks and memorable vocal performances. Born from Mark Zonder's rhythmic approach and songwriting vision, A-Z take a more direct approach to progressive metal, focusing on shorter, hook-driven compositions that combine complexity with strong melodies.
A-Z was created as a collaboration between Mark Zonder and Gary Wehrkamp, bringing together musicians with decades of experience across the progressive metal world.
