Big Star was an American rock band formed in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1971 by Alex Chilton (vocals, guitar), Chris Bell (vocals, guitar), Jody Stephens (drums), and Andy Hummel (bass). The group broke up in early 1975, and reorganized with a new line up 18 years later.
A clear influence on the likes of REM, The Replacements and notably Teenage Fanclub, the band's debut album '#1 Record' is now considered a classic.
