Barns Courtney – Alternative Rock, Blues Rock and Indie Anthems

Barns Courtney is an English singer-songwriter known for his gritty vocals, blues-influenced guitar work and anthemic alternative rock. Blending indie rock melodies with folk, soul and raw rock energy, he first attracted widespread attention with the singles Fire and Glitter & Gold. His music combines memorable hooks with a rough-edged delivery, heard across albums including The Attractions of Youth, 404 and Supernatural.

From Breakthrough Singles to Concept Albums

Born Barnaby George Courtney in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, Barns spent part of his childhood in Seattle before returning to the UK as a teenager. After performing in earlier bands, he pursued a solo career, gaining momentum in 2015 when Fire featured on the soundtrack to the film Burnt. Alongside Glitter & Gold, the single helped introduce his bluesy sound and distinctive vocal style to a wider audience.

His debut album, The Attractions of Youth, arrived in 2017, bringing together energetic rock songs and more reflective songwriting. Tracks such as Golden Dandelions, Hands and Sinners demonstrated his range, moving between driving rhythms, soulful melodies and atmospheric arrangements. The follow-up, 404, was released in 2019, continuing his mix of alternative rock, blues influences and polished pop-rock hooks.

In 2020, Courtney released the EP Hard to Be Alone, featuring a more stripped-back approach. He returned with Supernatural in 2024, his third studio album and a concept record set in a fictional dystopian world, following the rise of a cult leader. Its songs, including Golden, Young in America and National Treasure, expanded his storytelling while retaining the melodic songwriting and rock energy associated with his earlier work. In 2026, he released the live album Live and Wired, capturing his music in a concert setting.
