Marrow Deep also marks the first Mastodon studio album recorded without founding guitarist Brent Hinds, with guitarist Nick Johnston joining the band's core lineup alongside Brann Dailor, Troy Sanders and Bill Kelliher. The result is an album that acknowledges Mastodon's past while firmly looking towards its future.
