Nailbomb are an international industrial metal project formed in 1993 by Max Cavalera (Sepultura, Soulfly) and Alex Newport (Fudge Tunnel). Bringing together the brutality of extreme metal with industrial music, punk, and noise, the project became an influential cult favourite despite releasing only one studio album. Their uncompromising sound and politically charged lyrics captured the frustration and social unrest of the early 1990s, leaving a lasting mark on industrial and extreme metal alike.
Although the project originally came to an end following its legendary 1995 performance at Dynamo Open Air, Nailbomb returned in 2024 for a series of live performances led by Max Cavalera, with his son Igor, and members of grindcore juggernauts, Pig Destroyer, completing the line-up. While Alex Newport did not take part in the reunion, the return introduced Nailbomb's unique industrial metal assault to a new generation of fans while celebrating the enduring legacy of their groundbreaking debut.
Nailbomb fused industrial metal, groove metal, thrash metal, hardcore punk, and noise into an aggressive sonic assault. Heavy riffs, mechanical percussion, electronic samples, and shouted vocals combined to create music that was both abrasive and memorable, while the band's socially conscious lyrics tackled war, corruption, consumerism, and political oppression.
The project drew inspiration from both underground metal and industrial music, producing a sound that remains distinctive decades after its sole studio release.
Point Blank (1994) – the project's only studio album, delivering a ferocious mix of industrial metal, groove, thrash, hardcore, and electronic experimentation. Featuring guest appearances from several prominent musicians, it remains one of the defining industrial metal releases of the 1990s.
Proud to Commit Commercial Suicide (1995) – live album recorded at Dynamo Open Air, capturing Nailbomb's only live performance of the original era with an all-star line-up and showcasing the raw intensity of the project on stage.
Nailbomb proved that even a project with a remarkably small catalogue could leave a lasting legacy. The combination of Max Cavalera's aggressive songwriting and Alex Newport's industrial influences produced one of the defining industrial metal albums of the 1990s. Their return to the stage in 2024 demonstrated the continued demand for Nailbomb's unique blend of industrial aggression, groove, and political intensity.
Fans of Fear Factory, Godflesh, and Ministry will likely appreciate Nailbomb's crushing riffs, industrial textures, and uncompromising intensity.
