Defiance are an American thrash metal band formed in Oakland, California in 1985. Emerging from the legendary San Francisco Bay Area thrash scene, the band became known for their aggressive songwriting, technical musicianship, socially conscious lyrics, and powerful live performances.
Although often mentioned alongside the second wave of Bay Area thrash bands, Defiance earned widespread respect through a series of acclaimed releases that combined the speed and intensity of classic thrash with increasingly sophisticated songwriting and musicianship.
Defiance’s sound combines fast, intricate riffing, powerful rhythms, melodic lead guitar work, and politically aware lyricism.
