Asking Alexandria are an English Metalcore band formed in 2008 in York, North Yorkshire. Known for blending metalcore aggression with Hard rock, electronic influences, and arena-sized choruses, the band became one of the defining names of the late 2000s and early 2010s heavy music scene.
Their sound combines breakdown-heavy riffs, melodic hooks, screamed vocals, and polished modern production. Over time, the band expanded beyond their early metalcore roots, incorporating more hard rock and mainstream rock influences while maintaining the heaviness that established their reputation.
Asking Alexandria were founded by guitarist Ben Bruce after his return from Dubai, where he had previously played in an earlier version of the band. Wanting to restart the project in the UK with a stronger direction, Bruce recruited vocalist Danny Worsnop, guitarist Cameron Liddell, bassist Sam Bettley, and drummer James Cassells.
The band quickly gained attention through online promotion and touring, becoming closely associated with the rise of modern British metalcore. Their early material combined aggressive breakdowns with electronic elements and melodic choruses, helping them stand out during the genre’s rapid growth in popularity.
