INXS (a phonetic play on “in excess”) were an Australian rock band known for their infectious grooves, slick pop-rock sound, and the unforgettable charisma of frontman Michael Hutchence. Blending new wave, funk, and rock with irresistible energy, INXS became one of the world’s biggest bands of the 1980s and 1990s — delivering timeless hits that still electrify audiences today.
Formed in Sydney, New South Wales, in 1977 as The Farriss Brothers, the founding lineup included Garry Gary Beers (bass), Andrew Farriss (keyboards, main composer), Jon Farriss (drums), Tim Farriss (guitar), Kirk Pengilly (guitar, saxophone), and Michael Hutchence (vocals, lyrics).
For two decades, INXS were fronted by Hutchence, whose magnetic stage presence and sultry voice made him one of rock’s most captivating frontmen. With classic albums such as Listen Like Thieves (1985), Kick (1987), and X (1990), INXS defined an era of sleek, stylish rock ‘n’ roll.
Their international breakthrough album Kick remains a cornerstone of 1980s pop-rock, featuring iconic hits like “Need You Tonight,” “New Sensation,” and “Never Tear Us Apart.” It’s an album that continues to inspire generations of fans — and one that’s best celebrated in official INXS merch.
