Leftfield are a pioneering British electronic music group, originally formed in 1989 by Neil Barnes and Paul Daley. Widely regarded as one of the most influential acts in electronic music history, Leftfield helped shape the sound of the 1990s, bridging the gap between underground dance culture and mainstream innovation. Their work fused house, dub, techno, and reggae into something entirely new — a sound that redefined the term progressive house.
From their earliest singles through to their groundbreaking debut album Leftism (1995), Leftfield revolutionised electronic music. The record became an instant classic, with Mixmag famously calling them “the single most influential production team working in British dance music.”
Their music stood out for its bold creativity, genre-blending sound design, and collaborations with an eclectic range of guest vocalists — including Toni Halliday (Original), John Lydon (Open Up), Djum Djum (Afro-Left), and Earl 16 and Cheshire Cat (Release the Pressure). More recently, they’ve continued that legacy with modern voices such as Grian Chatten of Fontaines D.C. on Full Way Round from their acclaimed 2022 album This Is What We Do.
