Bathory are widely regarded as the first black metal band. Founded by Quorthorn (Thomas Forsberg) in 1983, Bathory was an extremely influential heavy metal band from Vällingby, Sweden. Quorthorn passed away in 2004. This was a big blow to the heavy metal/extreme metal community who regarded him as the forefather of black metal and Viking metal who created some of the most important and pivotal songs and albums of the heavy metal genre.
