Founded in 1979 in the San Francisco Bay Area, Vicious Rumors are a veteran heavy metal band led by guitarist Geoff Thorpe. Over four decades, they have built a reputation for powerful riffs, soaring vocals, and high-energy performances that have earned them a devoted following worldwide.
The current lineup consists of Geoff Thorpe (guitars, vocals), Robin Utbult (bass), Denver Cooper (guitars), and Chalice (Brian Betterton, vocals), reflecting their classic lineups over the years. The band first established themselves with two classic releases on Shrapnel Records, before signing to Atlantic Records, achieving further international recognition. During this period, they toured with Savatage, Megadeth, and Testament, and collaborated with director Gore Verbinski on two music videos — long before he became known for films like Pirates of the Caribbean and The Ring.
Still recording and touring today, Vicious Rumors released their 13th studio album in 2020, proving that decades in the scene haven’t dulled their precision or energy.
