Danzig is an American heavy music project formed by former Misfits frontman Glenn Danzig, known for blending Heavy metal, Blues rock, gothic atmosphere, and occult-inspired themes into a distinctly dark and powerful sound. Built around brooding vocals, slow-burning riffs, and a cinematic sense of menace, the band has become a key reference point in gothic-leaning heavy music.
From early releases that channelled raw heaviness and blues-infused metal to later material exploring darker, more atmospheric territory, Danzig established a sound that sits between classic metal weight and gothic rock restraint.
Samhain was the early incarnation of what would later become Danzig, with the name change marking a shift in direction and identity. Emerging in 1987, Danzig established a distinctive sound, blending stripped-back heavy metal with bluesy undertones and horror-inspired lyrical themes.. The result is a style that feels both deliberate and ominous, with a focus on mood as much as aggression.
Tracks such as “Twist of Cain” and “Mother” helped define the band’s reputation, combining infectious heaviness with a theatrical vocal delivery that quickly became recognisable as Glenn Danzig’s signature sound.
Each release reflects a different shade of the band’s evolution, from blues-heavy gothic metal to darker, more stripped-back modern compositions.
