Crosses are an American musical project formed in Los Angeles, California, led by Chino Moreno of Deftones alongside producer and guitarist Shaun Lopez (Far) and former collaborator Chuck Doom. Blending Alternative Rock, Electronic Music, Industrial Metal, Ambient textures and Post-Punk influence, Crosses sit in a space between stripped-back electronic composition and heavier, industrial-leaning atmospherics, with a strong focus on mood, restraint and texture over traditional song structure.
Originally presented using the symbol ††† rather than a conventional name, the project reflects a more restrained and introspective side of its members, prioritising atmosphere and sonic detail over conventional rock dynamics.
Crosses emerged as an outlet for material that didn’t fit within Deftones’ heavier or more expansive framework. Early releases leaned into minimal electronic production, layered synths and subdued vocal delivery, building an identity around tone and space rather than conventional arrangement.
The early EPs, including EP 1 (2011) and EP 2 (2012), established this foundation with restrained rhythms, atmospheric electronics and understated guitar work, occasionally hinting at industrial influence in their production style. This approach gradually evolved into more structured songwriting while retaining its sparse, late-night character.
After a long hiatus, the project returned with renewed focus, culminating in later releases that expanded the sonic palette while maintaining the core emphasis on atmosphere and controlled intensity.
