Prophecy of Doom are UK grind/death veterans from Gloucestershire, formed in 1988 by bassist Martin Holt and vocalist Shrew Schroder. From their earliest demos and EPs, the band set out to create challenging and unforgettable music that would stand out in the UK extreme metal scene. Their ferocious sound combines blasting grind passages with titanic walls of raw, grinding riffs, earning them a respected place among Britain’s most enduring grind acts.
After early lineup changes and the release of their 1988 demo, the 1989 EP Calculated Mind Rape brought the band to the attention of legendary DJ John Peel. Their debut album, Acknowledge the Confusion Master (1990), released on Peaceville Records’ Deaf Records sub-label, solidified their reputation for chaotic, high-intensity grind/death metal.
Following this, Matrix (1992) further explored technical riffing and intense grind passages, showing the band’s continued evolution while maintaining the aggressive sound that defined their early work. Prophecy of Doom also recorded multiple sessions with John Peel, reinforcing their legacy in the UK extreme metal scene.
