Trivium formed in Orlando, Florida in 1999 when vocalist and bassist Brad Lewter, guitarist Jarred Bonaparte and drummer Travis Smith came together, choosing the name Trivium to reflect their blend of metalcore, melodic death metal and thrash metal. After seeing Matt Heafy perform a Metallica cover at a school talent show, the band invited him to join as lead guitarist. Following Lewter's departure around a year later, Heafy assumed vocal duties, while temporary bassist Richie Brown joined before the band continued its search for a permanent bassist.
Known for combining metalcore, thrash metal, melodic death metal, progressive metal and traditional heavy metal influences, Trivium have become one of the defining bands of modern heavy music. Their music blends technical musicianship, powerful riffs, soaring melodies and dynamic songwriting, earning them an international following and critical acclaim.
Following their early line-up changes, Trivium quickly established themselves as one of the most exciting emerging bands in modern metal.
