Black Veil Brides – American Glam-Influenced Heavy Rock

Black Veil Brides are an American heavy rock band formed in 2006 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Known for combining theatrical visuals with aggressive modern rock influences, the band built a strong international following through a mixture of glam-inspired imagery, melodic heaviness, and emotionally driven songwriting.

Inspired by the theatrical presentation of bands such as Kiss alongside 1980s Glam metal acts including Mötley Crüe and Twisted Sister, Black Veil Brides developed a style that blends Hard rock, Post-hardcore, and modern heavy music with a dramatic visual identity.

Their music combines anthemic choruses, dual guitar leads, breakdown-driven heaviness, and cinematic production, helping them stand apart within modern heavy music while appealing to both classic glam and contemporary audiences.

Formation and development

Black Veil Brides were founded by vocalist Andy Biersack, who formed the band around a vision inspired by classic theatrical rock and modern post-hardcore influences. Early line-up changes eventually led to the more established formation featuring guitarists Jake Pitts and Jinxx, bassist Ashley Purdy, and drummer Christian “CC” Coma.

The band gained significant momentum through online promotion and a rapidly growing fanbase, particularly among younger alternative and heavy music audiences. Their debut album We Stitch These Wounds (2010) sold over 100,000 copies within its first week of release and reached number 36 on the Billboard 200 chart in the United States.

Black Veil Brides’ sound has evolved significantly since forming in 2006. Their debut album We Stitch These Wounds was widely described as Metalcore, combining breakdown-heavy songwriting, aggressive screams, and post-hardcore influences. The arrival of guitarist Jake Pitts also introduced more prominent lead guitar work and solos across much of the band’s material.

With the release of Set the World on Fire, the band shifted toward a more theatrical hard rock and glam metal-inspired direction. Their image began to resemble classic shock rock and glam acts such as Kiss and Mötley Crüe, while their music moved away from harsher screaming vocals in favour of cleaner melodic singing, larger choruses, and a more arena-driven sound.

As their popularity expanded, Black Veil Brides became known for large-scale live performances, conceptual themes, and a style that balanced melody, heaviness, and theatrical presentation.
