Teen Mortgage emerged from Washington DC in 2017 after guitarist and vocalist James Guile relocated from Liverpool and connected with drummer Ed Barkauskas through a last-ditch Craigslist post. As a two-piece, they quickly carved out a reputation in the local scene for the sheer force, focus, and precision of their sound.
Teen Mortgage blend east coast hardcore aggression with garage and surf grit, tied together by a sharp pop sensibility. Lyrically, James Guile explores the absurdities of modern life, while the band name itself reflects bigger ideas around pressure, debt, and the weight of existing in the current age. Their music is simultaneously confrontational and melodic, marrying raw intensity with infectious hooks.
