Founded in 1999 in Dalian, China, Wang Wen are widely regarded as one of China’s hardest-working indie bands. Known for their beautifully melancholic instrumental music, they have released over 11 studio albums since 2002, along with a split vinyl with Swedish instrumentalists PG.LOST. Over the years, the band has toured extensively across China and Europe, sharing stages with post-rock luminaries such as Mogwai and Mono, and earning a reputation for intense, immersive live performances.
Their music balances introspective calm with soaring crescendos, combining layered guitars, precise rhythms, keyboards, and brass elements to create cinematic soundscapes. Wang Wen consistently explores texture and atmosphere while maintaining a uniquely emotive identity.
The core members include Xie Yugang (guitar), Geng Xin (guitar), Xu Zengzheng (bass), Zhou Lianjiang (drums), Zhang Yanfeng (keyboards), and Huang Kai (horns), all contributing to the band’s richly layered sound.
