Brain Tentacles are an American avant-garde metal band from Los Angeles, California, active since 2013. Known for combining improvisational and structured pieces, they blend crushing doom grooves, psychedelic textures, and experimental elements. Their music often features unpredictable breaks, hypnotic repetition, and moments of chaotic intensity, drawing comparisons to the avant-garde jazz-metal experimentation of Naked City.
The band is saxophonist and synth player Bruce Lamont (BLOODIEST), drummer Dave Witte (PUBLICIST UK, CIRCLE OF ANIMALS), and bassist Aaron Dallison (KEELHAUL). All three members contribute to the band’s unique sound. Early on, they toured without a bass player, developing a distinctive sonic identity rooted in improvisation and experimentation. They later signed to Relapse Records to release their self-titled debut.
Across their career, Brain Tentacles have maintained a consistent vision: slow-burning, hypnotic compositions that balance heaviness with avant-garde experimentation — incorporating elements of drone, sludge, noise, psychedelia, and doom into each release.
