Alien Ant Farm are an American rock band formed in Riverside, California in 1996. Blending Alternative Rock, Nu Metal, Post-Grunge and Funk Metal influences, the band rose to international prominence in the early 2000s with their energetic sound, memorable hooks and distinctive musicianship.
The original lineup featured vocalist Dryden Mitchell, guitarist Terry Corso, bassist Tye Zamora and drummer Mike Cosgrove. Although the band has experienced several personnel changes throughout its career, Dryden Mitchell and Mike Cosgrove have remained constant members, helping preserve the band's signature sound while continuing to evolve musically.
Known for combining infectious melodies with heavy guitar riffs, funk-inspired basslines and playful songwriting, Alien Ant Farm developed a style that stood apart from many of their contemporaries. While often associated with the nu metal movement, the band incorporated a broad range of influences that gave their music a unique identity.
After forming in Southern California, Alien Ant Farm built a local following before independently releasing their debut album Greatest Hits in 1999. Their breakthrough came after winning a radio-sponsored competition, leading to a major label deal and the release of ANThology in 2001.
The album produced several successful singles, including their internationally acclaimed cover of Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal", which introduced the band to a worldwide audience. Rather than relying solely on that success, Alien Ant Farm continued to develop their songwriting through subsequent releases, balancing alternative rock melodies with heavier influences and technical musicianship.
Throughout their career, the band have remained a respected name within alternative rock and nu metal, earning a loyal fanbase through energetic live performances and a catalogue that extends well beyond their biggest hit.
