Better Lovers are an American Hardcore and Metalcore band formed in 2023 by former members of Every Time I Die alongside vocalist Greg Puciato, formerly of The Dillinger Escape Plan, and producer-guitarist Will Putney, who had previously produced Every Time I Die’s final two albums. Built from the foundations of aggressive hardcore, mathcore and metalcore, Better Lovers quickly established themselves through a sound that is both chaotic and tightly controlled, balancing technical precision with explosive energy.
The band’s lineup featured Greg Puciato on vocals, Jordan Buckley and Will Putney on guitars, Stephen Micciche on bass and Clayton “Goose” Holyoak on drums. With members already deeply associated with modern hardcore and heavy music, Better Lovers emerged with an immediately recognisable intensity rather than a gradual stylistic evolution.
Following the dissolution of Every Time I Die, Better Lovers formed as a continuation of the abrasive, high-energy spirit associated with many of its members, while pushing further into chaotic hardcore and metallic experimentation. Their music blends dissonant riffing, rapid rhythmic shifts and aggressive vocal delivery with moments of groove and melody that prevent the sound from collapsing entirely into noise — although it occasionally seems tempted.
Their debut material, including the God Made Me an Animal (2023) EP, introduced a sharp, volatile style rooted in hardcore urgency and metalcore complexity. The project was met with immediate attention within the heavy music community, largely due to both the pedigree of its members and the intensity of the material itself.
On February 24, 2026, the band announced they had amicably parted ways with Greg Puciato while continuing work on their second studio album.
