ASG are an American stoner rock band from Wilmington, North Carolina, formed in 2001. Known for blending thick stoner-rock riffs with melodic hooks and psychedelic flourishes, ASG occupy a comfortable space between sludge metal weight and classic rock accessibility.
Their music often balances two impulses: muscular, riff-driven heaviness and a surprising sense of melody. The result is a sound that feels equally suited to underground metal clubs and sun-bleached coastal highways — heavy without becoming oppressive, melodic without losing its edge.
ASG were formed by guitarist and vocalist Jason Shi alongside guitarist Jonah Citty, bassist Andy Ellis, and drummer Scott Key. Over the years the band have built a reputation for tightly constructed songs that sit somewhere between stoner rock, sludge metal, and alternative heavy rock.
While often associated with the sludge and stoner scenes of the American South, ASG’s approach has always been slightly broader.
