Devil Master are an American rock band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, whose music blends the intensity of Japanese hardcore with black metal and deathrock influences. Formed in late 2015, the band channels aggressive riffs, atmospheric textures, and dark, hypnotic melodies to create a sound that is simultaneously chaotic, heavy, and haunting.
Devil Master was formed in late 2015 by Francis “Darkest Prince” Kano and John “Hades Apparition” Hayes to explore their shared interest in early Japanese hardcore. Hayes recruited vocalist Max “Disembody Through Unparalleled Pleasure” Hamell, whom he had previously played with in Slutlust, while Kano brought in bassist Cassidy McGinley (from Cape of Bats) and keyboardist Max Gordon (from Low Charge). Gordon in turn invited Zach “Del” Worshim to complete the early line-up.
The band released their debut self-titled demo on October 27, 2016, through Grim Winds Records, limited to 100 physical cassette copies, all of which sold out. Since then, Devil Master has continued releasing music, including two studio albums, additional demos, and a live album, cementing their presence in the underground blackened rock scene.
The current line-up brings together the key members delivering the band’s signature sound: Francis “Darkest Prince” Kano on guitar, John “Hades Apparition” Hayes on guitar, Max “Disembody Through Unparalleled Pleasure” Hamell on vocals and bass, and Sean “Wrought by Fathomless Hands” Lafferty on drums. Together, they maintain Devil Master’s dark, intense, and atmospheric style.
