Gel were an American hardcore punk band from Hightstown and Forked River, New Jersey, formed in 2018. Emerging from members of the powerviolence band Sick Shit, Gel quickly became one of the most acclaimed and influential bands in modern hardcore through their explosive live performances, uncompromising energy, and fresh approach to traditional hardcore punk.
Combining the speed and aggression of classic American hardcore with elements of D-beat, punk rock, and post-punk, Gel developed a sound that felt both rooted in the genre's history and distinctly modern. Their short but impactful career helped shape the sound of contemporary hardcore during the early 2020s.
Gel's sound is built around fast-paced riffs, driving rhythms, urgent vocals, and an infectious sense of momentum. Drawing inspiration from classic hardcore punk while incorporating occasional post-punk textures and groove-driven passages, the band created music that was both aggressive and highly accessible.

Shock Therapy (2022) – acclaimed split release with Cold Brats, showcasing Gel's continued development while highlighting their roots within the DIY hardcore community.
Only Constant (2023) – debut full-length album and widely regarded career-defining release, combining classic hardcore intensity with sharper songwriting and broader musical influences.
Persona (2024) – final studio EP release featuring a more ambitious production style, expanded songwriting, and some of the strongest material of the band's career.
Gel became one of the defining hardcore bands of the early 2020s, earning praise for their authenticity, inclusivity, and relentless live performances. Despite their relatively brief existence, their recordings and influence continue to resonate throughout the modern hardcore scene.
