Chepang are a grindcore / powerviolence band whose sound and identity are rooted in what they call IMMIGRINDCORE — a ferocious collision of aggressive music, cultural identity, and uncompromising energy. Ripping from the streets of Kathmandu, Nepal to New York City, the band have been obliterating boundaries between music, borders, and nationalism since 2016.
Emerging from the underground with a sound that is both raw and deliberate, Chepang combine the speed of grindcore with the confrontational spirit of powerviolence. Their music is driven by rapid-fire drumming, abrasive guitar work, distorted low end, and explosive vocal delivery that channels the urgency and DIY ethos of the global hardcore scene.
The band’s lineup consists of Himalayan Chituwa (Surya Pun) on drums, Hammer (Gobinda Senchury) on drums, Nails (Kshitiz Moktan) on guitars, Bhotey Gore (Sanket Lama) on vocals, and Mountain God (Dipesh Hirachan) on vocals. Known for featuring two drummers and multiple vocalists, the group produce a dense, punishing sound that amplifies the intensity of their music. Since forming in 2016, the band have maintained this lineup while continuing to refine their distinctive approach.
Chepang channel themes of identity, displacement, and resistance into their music, reflecting both their cultural background and the raw urgency of underground grindcore. Their songs are short, explosive bursts that deliver maximum impact in minimal time.
Chepang’s releases showcase their rapid-fire songwriting and uncompromising intensity:
Lathi Charge (EP, 2016) – raw and explosive early release introducing their immigrindcore sound
Dadhelo – A Tale of Wildfire (2017) – fast, abrasive grindcore with a sharper political edge
Chatta – भुईचालो! (2020) – chaotic energy and blistering pace with refined songwriting
Swatta (2023) – heavier production and relentless rhythmic attack
Jhyappa (2025) – the band’s latest burst of aggressive immigrindcore intensity
Each release demonstrates Chepang’s ability to condense grindcore into short, devastating blasts of sound that leave a lasting impression.
