Man Must Die are a Glasgow-based Death metal and Grindcore band known for their relentless speed, technical precision, and uncompromising aggression. Blending brutal riffs with politically charged themes, their sound is both ferocious and thought-provoking, firmly rooted in the extreme metal underground.
Man Must Die was formed in May 2002 by John Lee, Alan McFarland, Danny McNab, and Joe McGlynn, with members already active across the Scottish metal scene through bands such as Regorge, Confusion Corporation, Co-Exist, and Godplayer.
The band quickly gained traction with their four-track demo The Season Of Evil in 2003, which drew the attention of Retribute Records. This led to the release of their debut album ...Start Killing in 2004, marking the beginning of their presence in the wider extreme metal underground.
Their music is characterised by rapid-fire drumming, razor-sharp guitar work, and vocals that shift between guttural depth and piercing aggression. Over the years, the band maintained a consistent presence in the scene, delivering tightly executed recordings and high-energy live performances, often exploring themes of social collapse, political unrest, and human conflict.
The final line-up featured Joe McGlynn (vocals, 2002–2024), Alan McFarland (guitar, 2002–2024), James Wright (bass, 2017–2024), Tony Corio (drums, 2017–2024), and Michael Allan (guitar, 2018–2024), closing out the band’s run with a tight, experienced line-up.
