Tröjan were founded in Wigan in 1982 by guitarist Pete Wadeson, quickly earning a reputation for fast, aggressive metal rooted in sharp, driving riffs. Their sound straddled speed and thrash, pushing momentum without ever losing control, making them a standout act in the UK metal scene.
The band drew comparisons to Motörhead and Metallica while retaining the melodic precision of the NWOBHM era. This combination gave Tröjan a distinctive edge, balancing raw power with disciplined musicianship and strong songcraft. Their music rewards listeners who appreciate both technical skill and full-throttle energy.
The band's future became uncertain following the release of their debut album, during which Pete Wadeson recorded an instrumental solo demo in the hope of catching onto the wave of shred guitarists finding success at the time. Eventually, the members continued under a new name due to management difficulties. They briefly used the name Lethal, before settling on Taliön and releasing one more album before splitting up.
Wadeson and Graeme Wyatt regrouped in 2019 under the name Tröjan/Taliön, uniting the music of both albums under one banner. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they were unable to perform live until 2023. After a few festival shows that year, they returned to using the original Tröjan name. In June 2025, Wadeson announced on social media that he had “stepped back” from Tröjan, citing health and personal issues with other members, and the band subsequently cancelled all forthcoming live performances.
The current line-up features Pete Wadeson on guitars and backing vocals, Sam Caldwell on drums, Emannuel Thorsen on vocals, and Luke Entwistle on bass, combining veteran experience with renewed energy.
