VUKOVI are a Scottish rock band from Kilwinning, North Ayrshire, Scotland, known for blending heavy riffs with sharp hooks and a distinctly modern edge. Their sound moves easily between intensity and melody, carrying a restless energy that feels current without chasing trends.
The band centres around Janine Shilstone (vocals) and Hamish Reilly (guitars), whose dynamic underpins VUKOVI’s balance of aggression and control. The songwriting is direct and purposeful, drawing from alternative rock and heavier influences while keeping a clear sense of identity.
Before VUKOVI took shape, Hamish Reilly, Niall Trotter, and Lewis Lynch played together in a Scottish rock band called Wolves. Unsatisfied with their lead singer at the time, the band parted ways with him. Around that same period, Janine Shilstone had been let go from another project. When she auditioned for Wolves in 2010, the chemistry was immediate. Her arrival reshaped the band’s direction so significantly that they adopted a new name — VUKOVI, the Serbian word for “wolves.” The artwork for the 2012 Sweet Swears EP drew inspiration from the Serbian coat of arms, featuring the distinctive double-headed eagle and crown.
The current lineup consists of Janine Shilstone (vocals), Hamish Reilly (guitars), and Martin Sharples-Johnston (drums), who performs as a touring member, alongside a wider collaborative setup supporting both their live shows and studio work.
Now signed to SharpTone Records, VUKOVI continue to refine a sound that works just as well through headphones as it does at full volume — expressive, sharp, and built with intent.
