Tiktaalika is the heavy metal project of guitarist and composer Charlie Griffiths, widely known for his work with Haken. While Haken explores expansive progressive rock and metal landscapes, Tiktaalika leans firmly into thrash-driven riffing, classic metal intensity and precise, modern production.
The project brings Griffiths’ sharper, more aggressive influences to the forefront — fast picking, intricate soloing and tightly structured songwriting without unnecessary excess.
Although driven by Griffiths’ songwriting, Tiktaalika is far from a one-man studio experiment. The core recording line-up includes Conner Green on bass and Darby Todd on drums — both seasoned musicians who add weight, groove and technical clarity to the material.
Green’s bass work underpins the dense riffing with tight low-end control, while Todd’s drumming provides both thrash urgency and progressive nuance. The result is heavy metal that feels muscular and deliberate rather than chaotic.
