KVAEN are a Swedish melodic black metal band formed in Kalix in 2019 by multi-instrumentalist Jakob Björnfot. The project combines melodic black metal with speed metal energy and themes inspired by Nordic mythology and Viking heritage.
Since their emergence, KVAEN have gained significant recognition within modern extreme metal for revitalising classic Scandinavian black metal and speed metal traditions with a melodic and highly energetic approach.
KVAEN’s sound is defined by razor-sharp tremolo riffing, galloping speed metal rhythms, soaring melodic guitar solos, and harsh yet expressive vocals. Their music blends the cold aggression of black metal with the triumphant and heroic spirit of classic heavy and Viking metal.
The project frequently incorporates themes of Norse mythology, battle, nature, and northern identity, creating a sound that feels both ferocious and epic.
