Nifelheim were a Swedish blackened metal band formed in Dals Långed in 1990 by twin brothers Per “Hellbutcher” and Tomas “Tyrant” Gustavsson. Fiercely dedicated to the raw spirit of 1980s extreme metal, the band became cult legends for their uncompromising fusion of black metal, speed metal, and thrash metal aggression.
Across their career, Nifelheim earned a reputation as one of the purest torchbearers of old-school black metal, embracing chaotic energy, Satanic themes, and classic underground aesthetics.
Nifelheim’s sound combines savage tremolo riffing, high-speed drumming, venomous vocals, and heavily speed metal-influenced songwriting rooted in the earliest era of extreme metal. Their music frequently explores themes of Satanism, Hell, warfare, death, and occult darkness.
