General Surgery are a goregrind band from Stockholm, Sweden, recognised for their brutal riffs, medical-themed lyrics, and uncompromisingly visceral sound. Combining the speed and ferocity of grindcore with gruesome surgical imagery, General Surgery have become a seminal name in the goregrind and extreme metal underground.
Formed in 1989, General Surgery initially drew influence from Carcass, Repulsion, and other grind pioneers. Their dedication to combining technical aggression with horror-inspired imagery set them apart, and they quickly gained a devoted underground following.
The band’s current line-up features Andreas Eriksson on bass and backing vocals (2003–present), Adde Mitroulis on drums and backing vocals (2003–present), Joacim Carlsson on guitars (1988–1991, 1999–present), Erik Sahlström on lead vocals (2007–present), and Urban Skytt on guitars (2015–present). Over the years, General Surgery has seen several line-up changes, but the band’s commitment to goregrind’s gruesome aesthetic has remained unwavering.
Drawing inspiration from early goregrind acts like Exhumed, and Haemorrhage, General Surgery established themselves as one of Sweden’s most respected extreme metal outfits, with relentless touring and a string of influential releases.
