Dekapitator are an American thrash metal band from San Jose, California, known for fast, furious riffs, razor-sharp solos, and relentless energy. Formed in 1996, the band pays homage to classic 1980s thrash while adding their own modern intensity, creating music that is both nostalgic and aggressively uncompromising. Their sound blends the speed and aggression of early Slayer and Kreator with tight musicianship and a sharp, US-thrash edge.
Dekapitator started as an idea between Matt “Hellfiend” Harvey, Dan Bulldoze, and Andy Maniac in the mid-1990s. With vinyl collections growing and a distaste for modern metal, the trio set out to destroy false-thrash Black Metal spinoffs. Hellfiend and Bulldoze auditioned various drummers in 1996 until Andy came back into the picture, completing the thrashing trio. Shortly after, the band officially formed with Matt Harvey and Col Jones taking the reins.
According to Matt, the band never officially split up but remained inactive in live shows for a period. As of 2018, Dekapitator resumed performing, bringing their thrash fury back to the stage for fans old and new.
The current line-up is Matt “Hellfiend” Harvey on guitars and vocals, Dan Bulldoze on bass, Col Jones As “Atomic” Andy Maniac on drums, and Derrel Houdashelt As D. Attacker on guitar. Together, they continue to deliver tight, aggressive thrash while staying true to the band’s mission of unrelenting old-school intensity.
