Sacramentum are a Swedish melodic black metal band from Falköping, formed in 1990 by Nisse Karlén under the original name Tumulus. Known for blending raw black metal aggression with melodic and atmospheric passages, the band has earned a lasting reputation in the Scandinavian extreme metal scene.
Sacramentum’s music combines intense black metal with sophisticated melodic structures, creating a sound that is both ferocious and haunting. Their riffs are precise, compositions layered, and atmosphere immersive, appealing to fans of both traditional and melodic black metal.
Despite a concise discography, each release demonstrates technical skill, strong songwriting, and a clear vision for melodic extreme metal. Sacramentum’s work continues to influence new generations of black metal musicians and listeners alike.
Sacramentum was founded by Nisse Karlén, who remained the driving force behind the band for decades. Following a reunion in 2019, Sacramentum performed live shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic paused events. They resumed live activity in 2022 with a refreshed lineup.

Sadly, on 25 August 2025, it was announced that lead vocalist Nisse Karlén had passed away by suicide at the age of 50. His legacy as a pioneering figure in melodic black metal continues to inspire fans and musicians alike.
