Ecstatic Vision are a heavy psych quartet based out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Formed in 2013 by Douglas Sabolik, the group draws on a wide spectrum of influences, from 60s Detroit rock like MC5, krautrock pioneers such as Can and Guru Guru, classic space rock from Hawkwind, Zam Rock, Afrobeat, and The Stooges. Their sound combines psychedelic textures with crushing riff-driven heaviness, creating a unique and immersive experience.
Prior to Ecstatic Vision's formation, Sabolik and Jordan Crouse both played in a metalcore band known as A Life Once Lost, active between 1998 and 2013. Sabolik was a founding member at the age of sixteen and, according to an interview with Northern Transmissions, had begun writing material for Ecstatic Vision before A Life Once Lost had broken up, ultimately composing half an album's worth of material by 2013.
Sabolik founded Ecstatic Vision in 2013 with Michael Field Connor on bass and Crouse on drums. The trio began playing local shows and, by the following year, were touring across the United States. Kevin Nickles joined in 2015 on saxophone and organ, adding new textures to the band’s sound, and Ricky Culp replaced Crouse on drums in 2018.
The band signed with Relapse Records soon after forming. Touring alongside Enslaved and YOB, they released their debut album Sonic Praise on 30 June 2015. Following a short hiatus, Ecstatic Vision returned with Elusive Mojo, released on 13 May 2022 via Heavy Psych Sounds. The release was supported with tours across North America and Europe, including appearances at Heavy Psych Sounds Fest, Red Smoke Festival, Duna Jam, and Hellfest.
