Industrial metal has never been known for restraint, and The Skatenigs certainly did not start practising it. Formed in Texas, they merged grinding electronics with heavy guitar riffs and a streak of dark humour that made their records feel equal parts confrontational and knowingly tongue-in-cheek.
Arriving during the early 90s industrial boom, they carved out a space that sat somewhere between thrash aggression and mechanical precision. Loud, abrasive and occasionally ridiculous — but always deliberate.
The Skatenigs’ sound balances distorted guitars with programmed beats that hit with industrial weight. There is groove beneath the chaos, and satire woven through the distortion. Fans of early Ministry, KMFDM and crossover-era metal will recognise the attitude immediately.
It is heavy music that does not mind being a bit ugly — in fact, it thrives on it.
