Kingdom of Sorrow are a supergroup from Massachusetts, combining elements of Sludge and Death metal to deliver crushingly heavy, groove-driven music. Known for aggressive riffs, punishing rhythms, and raw vocal intensity, the band has built a reputation as one of the more formidable acts in modern extreme metal.
Formed in 2005 by Jamey Jasta (vocals, Hatebreed) and Kirk Windstein (guitar, Crowbar), Kingdom of Sorrow emerged from a shared vision of blending groove-laden sludge with hardcore-infused intensity. In May 2005, the duo recorded at Silver Bullet Studios in Connecticut, and following Hurricane Katrina, Kirk Windstein relocated to focus on writing and assembling what would become the first Kingdom of Sorrow album.
The first glimpse of the project surfaced with the track “Buried in Black,” featured on Roadrunner Records’ MTV2 Headbangers Ball: The Revenge compilation, released in April 2006. The band signed with Relapse Records in fall 2007 and made their live debut on February 27, 2008, at the Worcester Palladium in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Since 2010, Jamey Jasta and Kirk Windstein have been joined by Charlie Bellmore (guitars) and Nick Bellmore (drums), completing the current line-up and adding further depth to the band’s crushing sound.
