Origin are a Technical death metal band from Topeka, Kansas, USA, renowned for their extreme speed, complex compositions, and relentless precision. Known for pushing the limits of technicality within death metal, Origin deliver a sound that is both brutally intense and intricately crafted.
Formed on July 4th, 1997, by Paul Ryan and Jeremy Turner, Origin quickly established themselves within the extreme metal underground through a combination of hyper-fast drumming, intricate guitar work, and uncompromising intensity. Their music is defined by machine-like precision, rapid tempo changes, and densely layered riffs, creating a sound that rewards repeat listens.
Over the years, the band has maintained a consistent approach to technical death metal while refining their songwriting and production. Their work often explores themes of existence, philosophy, and human struggle, delivered through a relentless sonic assault.
During the recording of Entity, the band operated as a trio consisting of Paul Ryan, Mike Flores, and John Longstreth, with vocal duties handled by Ryan and Flores following the departure of James Lee, who later joined Face of Oblivion.
In the same year, Origin signed with Nuclear Blast Records and recorded their first release for the label. After the release of Entity, the band recruited Jason Keyser of Skinless for vocal duties and toured North America.
The current line-up consists of Paul Ryan (guitars, vocals), John Longstreth (drums), Mike Flores (bass, vocals), and Jason Keyser (vocals), continuing the band’s reputation for precision and technical intensity.
