Jucifer are a duo from Athens, Georgia, known for their uncompromising blend of Sludge, Doom, and Noise rock. With towering riffs, thunderous percussion, and a sound that shifts between hypnotic repetition and outright sonic force, they’ve built a reputation as one of the more distinctive heavy acts to emerge from the underground.
Formed in 1993, Jucifer is made up of Amber Valentine (guitar, vocals) and Edgar Livengood (drums), who are also married. That long-standing partnership carries through into their music, giving their sound a cohesion that feels both deliberate and, at times, completely unrestrained.
Over time, the band has become known for their dense, amplifier-driven live shows and a firmly DIY approach to touring. Releases such as I Name You Destroyer and L’Autrichienne highlight their ability to balance punishing heaviness with an almost cinematic sense of space and atmosphere. It’s a combination that has influenced a range of sludge, doom, and noise rock acts — and demonstrated that two people can still generate a formidable amount of noise.
